Feb 28, 1933 Adolf Hitler is granted emergency powers as a result of the burning of the Reichstag building. Mar 22, 1933 The Nazi’s open the first concentration camp, it is called Dachau. Apr 26, 1933 The Gestapo is created. Jul 14, 1933 The Nazi’s start passing a series of laws and bans prohibiting Jews German citizenship, owning land, being newspaper editors, and more. Sep 15, 1935 The Nuremberg Race Laws against the Jews are passed. Nov 9, 1938 Nazi’s storm, raid and burn Jewish homes and business, this becomes known as Kristallnacht, or The Night of Broken Glass. Sep 1, 1939 The Nazi’s invade Poland, it’s the start of WW2. Jan 25, 1940 The town of Oswiecim, Poland, is chosen as the site for the infamous concentration camp Auschwitz. Jun 6, 1944 The invasion of Normandy, code named Operation Overlord, or D-Day, takes place. Oct 30, 1944 Last use of the Auschwitz gas chambers. 1945 Nazi’s conduct death marches on concentration camp prisoners as the Allied Powers get closer. Apr 30, 1945 Hitler commits suicide. May 7, 1945 Germany officially surrenders and the Holocaust ends. Aug 14, 1945 Japan surrenders, this becomes known as V-J Day, or Victory over Japan day. Nov 20, 1945 The Nuremberg Trials begin Oct 1, 1946 The Nuremberg Trials end. May 11, 1960 Adolf Eichmann is captured in Argentina by the MOSSAD (Israeli Secret Service). May 31, 1962 Adolf Eichmann is hanged.
