The Proclamation of 1763 was where the British enacted a rule that the colonists could not make any westward expansion beyond the Appalachian Mountains in order to keep the Indians happy.
Many Colonists just ignored it, George Washington being one of these colonists. He tried to buy the most amount of illegal land as he could. The proclamation made a common hate towards the British from the colonists.
Instead of it being temporary the British made it last until the eve of the Revolutionary war. -
The stamp act is when the British, in order to pay off debt from the war, placed a tax on papers.Any document from court papers to playing cards had to have a stamp to show you payed tax.
Colonists in response to this act formed the Stamp Act Congress. They sent letters to the British saying they would not pay taxes.Colonists resisted by destroying the stamps or sending the boats back to England.
British revoked the act in 1766 and enacted the Declaratory act that states they can pass any law. -
This act was where the British taxed imports, such as paper, tea, and glass.
The colonists decided to Boycott the goods that were imported. The British in response to this was to send troops to Boston to stop the unrest. The tension between the patriot colonists and British soldiers escalated to the point where the Boston Massacre happened. British soldiers shot into a mob and killed five colonists.
All taxes from the Townshend Act were repealed except the one on tea in April 1770. -
The Tea Act made it so that the East-India Company could sell tea directly to the colonists.
This angered the colonists because it took the jobs of colonial merchants. These merchants were very important people and this act angered them. So, in response to the act they boycotted tea. Others performed the Boston Tea Party. Which is where they dressed up as Indians and went on the company's boats full of tea and threw it into the harbor.
In response to this revolt British made the Coercive Acts. -
Coercive Act was four acts.Boston Port Act, the port was closed until debt was paid from Boston Tea Party.Massachusetts Government Act which restricted meetings and made them have appointed people in the Governor's Council.Administration of Justice Act, the British officials couldn't be criminally prosecuted in Massachusetts.Quartering Act, making it so you have to let troops live with you if demanded.Colonies formed First Continental Congress to discuss united resistance against the British. -
