  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    The Proclamation of 1763 prevented the British colonists from advancing and settling past the Appalachian Mountains. The colonists saw this as an attempt to further control them.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    The Sugar Act was passed in an attempt to stop the smuggling of molasses and sugar by the colonists. The act also prohibited the purchasing of any foreign alcoholic beverages. The colonists were angry at this act because of how much they used molasses and sugar to make and sell rum.

    Currency Act
    The Currency Act was made to regulate the currency within the British colonies, as the colonies had their own versions of currency that were not favorable to British merchants. The colonists were angry at the fact that the British got rid of their own currencies.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act was passed by the British Parliament to tax any type of paper object or document. Anything from cards and dice to court documents and land deeds. The colonists hated this tax because of how many of the things they used that were affected by this tax.
  • Quartering Act of 1765

    Quartering Act of 1765
    The Quartering Act of 1765 was enacted to force the colonists to offer shelter/housing to British soldiers that resided in the colonies. The colonists did not agree with this act, as they thought it was unnecessary to house an entire British army when there was no war or conflict.
  • Declaratory Act

    Declaratory Act
    The Declaratory Act was a formal declaration that also passed and repealed the Stamp Act. The declaration essentially warns the colonists that Parliament could pass any law they wanted. The colonists were not happy about this act, since it pretty much guaranteed that other Acts will be passed without their consent.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    The Townshend Acts were passed as a way to tax the imported goods that flowed into the colonies. The colonists began saying the phrase: "No Taxation without Representation" after this Act passed.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre was a violent altercation that occurred between a group of colonists and some British Soldiers. The soldiers opened fire into the crowd of colonists after they were antagonized. 5 colonists were killed. This event caused the colonists to get further outraged at how Great Britain was treating them.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    The Boston Tea Party was a protest against Great Britain and the Townshend Acts by a group called "The Sons of Liberty". The group dressed up as Native Americans and went into the Boston Harbor. They proceeded to dump gallons upon gallons of tea into the harbor. This event further encouraged colonists to begin going against the British authority.

    Intolerable Acts
    The Intolerable Acts were passed in retaliation to the Boston Tea Party. The Colonies were even further enraged by the British encroaching more onto their freedoms.
  • Quartering Act of 1774

    Quartering Act of 1774
    The Quartering Act of 1774 further allowed British soldiers to take anything they needed from any colonist without their consent. This really made the colonists start talking about a revolt, as their rights were deliberately being infringed on at this point.
  • Quebec Act

    Quebec Act
    The Quebec Act was mainly passed to get the French populace of Quebec to be loyal to Great Britain. The colonists saw this as a blatant attempt to control a populace, and got very outraged at the passing of this act.
