  • Opening of Japan

    Commodor Perry was given a mission to go and make a treaty with Japan. He brought a steamboat fleet to Japan, and forced the emperor to speak with him. After a little while, they came up with a treaty which opened Japan to America.

  • Purchase of Alaska

    Russia did not want alaska anymore because of political and economic reasons, and needed to get rid of it for a good price... America, happy to be That Country as always, bought the land. Soon after though, gold was struck in Alaska, and then came the Alaskan Gold Rush
  • Spanish American War

    The Spanish American War was originally between Cuban freedom fighters and Spaniards who believed Cuba belonged to them. America intervened, promising the Cubans freedom, and eventually freed them from Spain. However, America lied and they didnt give Cuba freedom until a later date.
  • Annexation of Hawaii

    America decided to act on the interests of a fruit company that wanted Hawaii to grow its fruit in. America, happy to oblige corporate interests, dethroned the queen and annexed them.
  • US Annexation of the Phillipines

    The US annexed the Phillipines after the S-A War. Fillipino revelutionaries attempted to free the Phillipines from American control, but ultimately failed.
  • Boxer Rebellion

    The boxer rebellion was not, in fact, a rebellion, It was more a very violent anti foreigner and anti-christian policy that took place in China. China opposed imperialism and christianity, and even killed it's own citizens in this blind hatred.
  • Platt Amendment

    An amendment to the earlier Teller Amendment, American troops were required to withdraw from Cuba. This defined relationships between the two countries.
  • Panama Canal

    A project orignally started by the French, and abandoned because of disease and hardware malfunctions. Then America took over the project, and took over a decade to build it. The Panama Canal made it easier for ships to sail to the other side of the country. Instead of weeks to get from the east to west coast, it takes less than a day with a lot less danger.
    Fun Fact, Theodore Roosevelt visited the project for morale reasons, and even operated a crane to give a worker a break.
  • Roosevelt Corollary

    A corollary written for the Monroe Doctrine by Roosevelt. Basically, America will intervene on all European and Latin conflicts to enforce legitimate European rule, instead of the Legitimate rule doing it by themselves.
