    First Crossing of the Atlantic
    SS Savannah a 330 ton ship, 98 feet and 6 inches in length, with a beam of but 25 feet 2 inches, and drawing 12 feet and 1 inch had been fitted with both sails and a 90 Horse Power engine and boiler. On the 22nd of May in 1819, she sailed out of the port of Savannah Georgia, commanded by Moses Rogers to commence the first historic crossing of the Atlantic Ocean by a steamship. She made it to Liverpool England on the 20th. of June, using her engines on 18 days of her epic journey.

    Sir Samuel Cunard to set up his world famous shipping line
    In 1840 the company's first steamship, the Britannia, sailed from Liverpool to Halifax, Nova Scotia and on to Boston, Massachusetts, with Cunard (the owner) and 63 other passengers on board. As the USA was deemed the new world it was very popular to visit and migrate to this exciting new place. Cunard's rivals was the White Star Line, the owners of the Titanic.

    Prinzessin Victoria Luise is the ship to be credited as the first ever travelling cruise ship. The life of this ship was relatively short as the ship was accidentely hit against rocks when Captain Brunswig decided to anchor at Port Royal when he mistook the lighthouse at Plumb Point. The captain killed himself before the passengers were rescued.

    Beginning in 1929, Seatrain Lines carried railroad boxcars on its sea vessels to transport goods between New York and Cuba. Although, containers had been used before on different locomoties (trains), using a boat allowed them to be hauled much furthur distances much more economically. Thus bringning in the demand for the containers and the container ships.

    This award gave the fastest passanger liner crossers accolades for their high speeds show. Therefore encouraging the producers to make the ships faster and more efficient.

    Maersk E Class is currently the biggest contianer ship in the world. However it is to be ugraded into Maersk Triple E Class. Triple E stands for Economy of scale, Energery efficient, Enviromentally improved.

    MS Allure of the Seas together with her sistership Oasis of the sea, was the biggest ever passenger ship built. With 16 passenger decks, the maximum cpacity of the two ships are appoximately 6,296 passengers.

    MS Vale Brasil was launched in December 2010. It has the potential to go as fast as 17.7 miles per hour. Vale Brasil received her first cargo on May 24th 2011 and has been in service since then. With 33 crews the MS Vale Brasil has the potential to carry over 440,000 tons of deadweight tonnage.
