  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    Enforced: None of the colonists could settle on the land to the west of the Appalachian Mountains.
    Reaction of colonists: Some did not obey the restrictions and resisted the government
  • Sugar Act

    Enforced: It was to help prevent the illegal trade of sugar products from other regions.
    Reaction of colonists: They thought that England could not provide enough sugar for every one of the colonists, so they protested.
  • Currency Act

    Currency Act
    Enforced: The colonists were no longer allowed to use their form of currency, so they were forced to stop production of it and it was not allowed to go back into the hands of colonists.
    Reaction of colonists: They protested this act.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    Enforced: Paper produces had to have a stamp on them.
    Reaction of colonists: Negative reactions; boycotts and riots occurred
  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    Enforced: British soldiers were allowed to practically "move" into the homes of colonists, and anywhere in town, if needed.
    Reaction of colonists: They were upset because they still had to pay for the soldiers to stay in their homes and for taxes to their barracks.
  • Declaratory Act

    Declaratory Act
    Enforced: It ensured that everyone in both Britain and North America were being treated the same, and the taxes were normal.
    Reaction of colonists: Some were happy about the "equality," and other were upset because the act alluded to more acts/taxes in the future.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    Enforced: There were taxations placed on many items, such as tea and paint.
    Reaction of colonists: They decided to boycott British goods.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    What happened was a group of British soldiers began shooting at a crowd of males that were taunting and throwing things at them. Five men died as a result of this act of violence. The colonists proceeded to protest against the King and Britain.
  • Tea Act of 1773

    Enforced:
    Reaction of the colonists: They were upset because they did not want to buy tea from East India only. They also thought that it was unfair for tea to be taxed. This later resulted in the Boston Tea Party.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    As a result on the the newest tax on tea, the colonists were angered about only sourcing the tea from East India. To get back at them, along with England, they dumped hundreds of crates of tea into the harbor.
  • Coercive Acts

    Coercive Acts
    Enforced: Britain was getting back at the Massachusetts colonists for being so disrespectful. They wanted them to pay for the damages and they even closed one of their ports until full payment.
    Reaction of the colonists: Again, the colonists were angered, and they form the First Continental Congress to try and come up with a plan for revenge.
  • The Quebec Act

    The Quebec Act
    Enforced: Canadians could have civil law again, and they could also have religious freedom.
    Reaction of the colonists: They were angered by this because they thought Britain was trying to prove their dominance, yet again. They also thought that Britain was just trying to get complete power over all of North America.
  • The First Continental Congress approves the Suffolk Resolves

    The First Continental Congress approves the Suffolk Resolves
    Basically, this was a meeting called with the goals to find a way to fight against Britain, for they had just recently imposed the Coercive Acts. They were inconsiderate and destructive, and the colonists wanted revenge.
