    King Harold II of England is defeated by the Norman forces of William the Conqueror at the Battle of Hastings, fought on Senlac Hill, seven miles from Hastings, England. 10,000 men dies in this battle.

    The Domesday Book was commissioned in December 1085 by William the Conqueror, who invaded England in 1066. The original Domesday Book has survived over 900 years of English history and is currently housed in a specially made chest at The National Archives in Kew, London. This site has been set up to enable visitors to discover the history of the Domesday Book, to give an insight into life at the time of its compilation, and provide information and links on related topics.

Strangest of all, they were covered in mysterious black boils that oozed blood and pus and gave their illness its name: the “Black Death.” The Sicilian authorities hastily ordered the fleet of “death ships” out of the harbor, but it was too late: Over the next five years, the mysterious Black Death would kill more than 20 million people in Europe.

During the journey, Marco became very tired and fell asleep on his horse. Eventually Marco woke up and did not see his family. He began to hear voices within the desert and thought that his family was searching for him and calling his name "Marco". He began to respond to those cries with "Polo".
