  • Proclomation of 1763

    Proclomation of 1763
    The Proclamation of 1763 was a document created by the British government to set boundaries which were placed between The Appalachian Mountains at the Eastern Continental Divide. This document stopped the colonists in North America from migrating past the Appalachian Mountains. This made the colonists in North America, resentment the British because they had no say or option to vote for or against the boundaries.
  • The Currency Act

    The Currency Act
    The Currency Act took away colonist currency and had them use pounds/pound sterlings. The British made colonists alter their currency so British merchants wouldn’t be taking money with a lower value.
  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act
    The Sugar Act placed taxes on sugar and molasses. It also put taxes on other good imported to America from sources that were not British. This was put in place essentially to control who America traded with and allowed the British to watch their connections. This act made the colonists feel like they were being treated unfairly. This stopped colonists from smuggling in goods, but it made their economy decline being that the taxes placed on their imported good were so high.
  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act was an act passed by congress which put taxes on stamps. This was inconvenient for the colonists because almost every single document, letter, book etc. needed a stamp on it or they would be fined or even put to death. This act was passed by Parliament because they needed to pay for the war that was just fought. This Act was one of the many that was placed on the colonists to make money. This Act being passed made colonists feel like they had no representation in Parliament.
  • The Quartering Act

    The Quartering Act
    The Quartering Act was a document that required the colonists to house soldiers who were in their town. They were to provide them with drinks, food, housing, fuel, and/or whatever else they may have needed. Colonists were basically forced to open their homes to strangers. This would make them feel unsafe, and more importantly unrepresented. When this Act passed this made the colonists look at their representation in Parliament a bit closer.
  • The Declaratory Act

    The Declaratory Act
    This Act stated that the British Parliament had the same tax authority in America as they did in Great Britain. This act asserted the authority of the British government in America. This act was passed right after the repeals of the previous tax act but it most certainly did not put the colonists concerns to rest. The colonists knew more taxes would be coming based off of Parliaments control over taxes in America, so they became infuriated.
  • The Townshend Acts

    The Townshend Acts
    The Townshend Acts were a series of laws placed on America by the British Government. They also placed “duties” on tea, glass, and paint etc.. Duties were basicaly a code word for taxes. These duties, laws, and acts passed through this act made the colonists feel more strongly about their misrepresentation in Parliament. Their anger and resentment continued to grow because of their unfair treatment.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre was a conflict between the colonists and British soldiers. The colonist were arguing with the soldiers and some soldiers let off fire killing 5 colonist. As expected the colonists became horrified. They had soldiers in their town killing people and more than likely the soldiers would not be punished since the colonists had little to no rights when it came to a trial.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party
    The Boston Tea Party was a protest carried out by the colonists, and the Sons of Liberty. The Sons of Liberty was a political organization in the colonies created to oppose taxtaion. This group and the colonists through 342 chests of tea imported by the Bristish overboard. This was meant to combat the British and the unfair taxes they were placing on the colonists.
  • The Quartering Act

    The Quartering Act
    This Quartering Act much like the other allowed strangers into the homes of colonists. But this time, royal governors were able to house in colonists homes. This made the colonist angry.
  • The Intolerable Acts

    The Intolerable Acts
    The Intolerable Acts were a series of laws passed and placed on the colonists as punishment for The Boston Tea Party. Four acts were passed, and one of them is the Boston Port Bill which closed the Boston Harbor. The other was The Massachusetts Government Act that got rid of the elective government and replaced it with a new one that gave the military more power. Then the administration of justice act which protected the British from being charged with capital offenses.The colonists hatred grew.
  • The Quebec Act

    The Quebec Act
    This Act passed by Parliament gave the French Canadians civil law and freedom of religion. This act worried the colonists because with the French Canadians having religious freedom they could try to spread catholicism which is exactly what the colonists were trying get away from.
