Proclamation of 1763
The Proclamation of 1763 was a way to stop the Native American colonists from coming to or using the western territory in order to prevent conflict between them and the British.
In response to the colonists, they felt as if the government was trying to gain more power to control them. As a result, they ended up rebelling against the Proclamation. -
Sugar Act
The Sugar Act raised taxes on the colonists to import molasses and also raise the price to import it.
In response from this, colonists boycotted the good that were being imported and that taxation without representation was unconstitutional. -
Currency Act
The Currency Act made sure that they were no new bills to be made and restricting them to make their own money/currency.
The colonists were anger since it reduced their wealth and made them unable to trade and pay debts and taxes. In response they had also protested. -
Stamp Act
Tax on British colonies raised in America in paper materials and people who didn't abide were accused by this act were to be tried.
In which wasn't right to tax the colonists because they didn't have representatives; this created conflict between England and America.
Stamp Act of delegates met in NY October 1765, in which they helped the colonists by petitioning the king and helped with their rights -
Quartering Act 1765
The parliament passed the Quartering Act in 1765. Which allowed British men to go to colonists’ homes. This meant that British red coats could have a house that they could be fed in and this would make the colonists lose money. With taxes and limited trading, this affected it as well.
The colonists opposed to these ideas but were still forced to give welcome the British in their homes. -
Townshend Act
Charles Townsend tried to convince the Parliament to pass an act demanding new duties on goods such as tea, glass, and paper imported into American colonies so that they would be able to pay officials and for their defense; in which this started had a disagreement/conflict with America. Colonists made non-importation organizations to cancel these duties (the prevention of exports in America). -
Boston Massacre
A snowball fight between citizens and British soldiers until someone gave the order to attack.
Colonists responded by doing more boycotting and keeping a watch over the British. -
Boston Tea Party
Men disguised as Indians threw 342 chests of tea into the harbor to protests against the Tea Act.
This resulted in an outbreak of acts called the Intolerable Acts in which it closed the Boston Harbor, imported a new government, and allowed fair trials.
Colonists thought it was unfair because of the extra taxes they had to pay for. -
Intolerable Acts
This act happened in a result of the Boston Tea Party in order to punish the British.
The colonists opposed to this act because they placed more forced taxes on them without consent. -
Quartering Act 1774
This act allowed local authorities to enter the colonists homes.
The colonists resented this act because they saw it as unjust taxation. -
Quebec Act
This act allowed trials without jury, didn't establish a representative assembly, and gave the Catholic Church more power.
The colonist opposed this because it interfered with Americas expansion, though Quebec was able to expand. -
Declaratory Act
This act allowed Parliament to make laws binding the colonies.
In some way, the colonists were happy since this act allowed the Stamp Act to be repealed.
