  Tensions between the Spanish and the aztec increased. Cortes recieved a message that the Spanish governor sent men to arrest him for disobeying his orders.
 Aztec began to prepare for the festival honouring the god Huitzilopochtli. Nobles, priests, and warriors dance at tje celebration. Men surrounded the courtyard and massacred the unarmed worshippers. Nobles and priests had been killed. Spanish had to retreat to cortes palace. Spanish and Aztec's peaceful agreement was gone.
