    Spanish Flu Pandemic
    The Spanish flu pandemic started in January 1918 and ended December 1920. It infected 500 million people and was responsible for 50 to 100 million deaths across the world, one of the worlds greatest natural pandemics, at the time life expectancy had dropped by 12 years. It was also extremely devastating for the soldiers of world war 1 to come home from the war to see all their family and loved ones had been killed off by the flu, or to survive that hell to only come home to die from the flu.
  • Winnipeg General Strike

    Winnipeg General Strike
    The Winnipeg general strike caused by massive unemployment and inflation, the Russian Revolution in 1917 and the Revolutionary Industrial union, these three things were the primary causes of the Winnipeg strike. This strike lasted from May15 to June25 1919. This strike crippled the city with trains and other transit stopping and people walking out of their jobs. Eventually the government sent the royal Canadian Mountain police to end the protest in the streets, strike leaders were arrested.

    Cars During 1920-1930
    Although cars were not invited during the 19 century they did have a huge impacted during the 1920-1930. The economic boom allowed many people to afford cars during the early 1920's. With many people buying cars it also affected the economy and the job market. These cars also allowed people to get stuff done a lot more efficiently as they allowed for much quicker travel and transport of good and items.

    Movies 1920-1930
    Movies were huge form of internment in the 20's and 30's. In 1928 Walt Disney released the first cartoons ever to have sound in them, this was an extremely big deal because up until 1927 motion pictures were not released with sound. To see a movie during the 1920 it was about 27 cents that calculates to about 3 dollars today.

    Prohibition
    Prohibition started January-17-1920 and ended December-5-1933, this law prohibited all consumption of alcohol unless other wise prescribed by a doctor for strict medical use only. The law of prohibition actually made alcohol more popular then ever as people were consuming more then when it was legal. This new law prohibiting alcohol left a huge demand for it as no one could get access to it legally creating a hole new market of illegal business that came to a boom during the time.
  • Chanak Crisis

    Chanak Crisis
    The Chanak Crisis or also called the Chanak Affair was a war scare between Britain and the Republic of Turkey. The war scare began when the Turkish tried to push the Greek armies out and restore Turkish power. The Turkish troops marched against the British and French position in the natural zone. The scare was quickly over when the Turkish quickly overwhelmed the Greeks and they agreed to give them the territory they desired. The scare took place during 1922 and was quickly over.

    Stock Market Crash
    The Stock Market Crash was a devastating blowing during 1930 that put many states,cities,towns and even people in a great state of depression. It took a huge blow to the economy and many people lost their jobs and all their money in the banks. The stock crash its self was a sudden dramatic decline of stock prices of significant parts of the stack market, this is what caused it to crash.

    5 Cent Speech
    During April 3 of 1930 one of the former prime ministers of Canada Mackenzie King gave outrages speech that offended the public and lost him his job. The main topic of his speech was that Canadian government should not give unemployed benefits,during this speech he say he would not give 5 cents to the unemployed, this didn't not fly so well with the public. Overall this speech I was lost him control of Canadian government.

Citation: This photo was taken during 1931 Context: During the great depression there were a lot of jobless men that could not afford food for them or their families so they could come to the soup kitchen to get a free meal. (never enough food to go around) Connections: The main connection to this photo is the great depression which was a lack of economy and jobs for the people caused the stock market crash of 1929.
