Teacher Ruth and I spent a week teaching streeteducators on Creative Drama. We visited streetchildren in center based programs. I met Luu Anh Tuan, a professor in a University and involved with special education. This opened my mind to new possibilities.

PARADIGMS SHIFTING
This is doing community based education for parents and children of Aeta families devastated by the eruption of Mt Pinatubo. I remember Teacher Vilma, Marlo, Tina, Mylene...and most especially the families of Sitio Baguinon. Wokring with community members raised questions on community development needs vs program management. -
BEING and BECOMING
A first time for me to manage curriculum delivery and monitoring and teacher training of daycare workers from communities in Region 3 provinces. This was some kind of awakening into the limitless possibilities of being and becoming a teacher in the Philippines. -
This is where I met my future life partner=Teacher Vic.

Back to my alma mater, this time under the College of Social Work and Community Development where I was inspired by great practitioners in the field of development work--Angelito Manalili, Karina David, Sir Tex (bishop/priest who blessed my wedding 1999)

I had two years of trying different methods to teach children with learning disabilities. Quite boggled with the Slingerland Approach which I find highly structured and prescriptive. It was in the other end of the specturm from where I was with a background of Whole language approach. There I was in a pendulum swing. This was also about teaching with more friends: Teacher Red (bestfriend), Teahcer Dina O (college friend), Teacher Mailin (new friend), Teacher Vic (next boyfriend).

REALITY CHECKING ON ME
I was one of the pioneer fulltime volunteer corps of the University of the Philippines assigned in schools labelled as marginalized and deprived. My perspectives have changed in viewing public school teachers. Now I know why children are not learning enough. -

STRETCHING A BIT

Finally deciding to put up The Builder's School amidst engaging in a workshop on The Project Approach with Teacher Ani of Raya School.

I wasn't so sure what I was supposed to do as Program Chair, but I accepted it just the same after some words of wisdom from the one and only Sir Lex Librero, then Faculty Regent to the BOR of the University of the Philippines. This was a major leap from Basic Ed to Higher Ed @Distance Mode....no turning back, and instead, movin' on.
