French Indochina was a Colony that was controlling Vietnam. Vietnam wanted their independence from them, but France refused to give them it. Vietnam gets their support from USSR which makes Vietnam become a communist. The US supports France and does not help Vietnam get their independence. -

The Vietnam War was part of the cold war. It was one of the longest war in the US history. The Vietnam War was the only war the US has lost. 58,000 Americans were killed in the war. There were many reasons that the Vietnam War. Vietnam was part of a colony that is called the French Indochina. After WWI, Vietnam wanted their independence from the French Indochina, but France refused. Vietnam decided to get support from the USSR, which made them become communist. -
Tonkin Gulf Incident
Tonkin Gulf Incident was a presidential war. It gave President Johnson the power to declare war in Southeast Asia and expand the Vietnam War. The military planned a major attack on North Vietnam. President Johnson was afraid that people won't support him with his decision of expanding the war. -
Tet Offensive
Tet Offensive was one of the largest military campaigns during the Vietnam War. It was launched by North Vietnamese and Viet Cong against South Vietnam. It attacked more than 100 cities and town in South Vietnam. This was one of the things that made the US slowly withdrawal from the war. -
President Nixon
When President Nixon Announced that he was running for president, he told people that he had a " secret plan" to end the war. He didn't keep his promise. He lied about having a plan. Congress passed War Powers Act, which says that the president is not allowed to send troops without informing congress. -
Fall of Saigon
The Fall of Saigon was North Vietnam conquering Saigon, which is the capital of South Vietnam. North Vietnam takes all of South Vietnam and it all becomes one country which is still communist. The US does not get involved in this conflict. The US has failed in stopping the spread of communism.
