    "You have a row of dominoes set up. You knock over the first one, and what will happened to the last one is certainty that it will go over very quickly." The President discussed this during the Vietnam War talking about how winning the war is similar to knocking over a set of dominoes.

    In April, the Geneva Convention Agreement had arranged for a settlement of the Indochina War. The Geneva Agreement was not reached until the very end of the Geneva Conference. Both sides finally came to an agreement to sign in a ceasefire. After the Convention, France agreed to bring home the troops from fighting finally.

    In January, the United States sent their very first first aid kit to the soldiers fighting. Along with the kit, they offered to help train the South Vietnam Army.

    Soviet Union proposes permanent to divide Vietnam
    The Soviet Union proposed to divide Vietnam into a North and a South Vietnam. Along with dividing Vietnam, they thought that both parts should be admitted separately to the United Nations. The United States rejected this proposal and would not recognize Communist North Vietnam as standing on their own.

    In South Vietnam, The National Liberation Front was formed by Hanoi and its communist political organization for Viet Cong guerrillas. This was designed to replicate the success of the Viet Minh who successfully liberated Vietnam from the French colonial rule. They were trying to do the same thing with this war.

    The U.S Marines arrive to the war to defend their home country in Danang. We brought a total of 200,000 troops to defeat the enemy.

    The North Vietnamese and the Vietcong forces an attack multiple cities in South Vietnam. This is a major setback for the Communist.

    Vietnamization
    Vietnamization is a policy created and enforced during the war to end the United States involvement in the war and to expand equipment and training to South Vietnam forces. It also assigned every increasing combat role and at the same time they steadily decreased the number of U.S troops involved.
  • Ceasefire Announced

    Ceasefire Announced
    Nixon announced to Americans that there will be no more drafting for the Vietnam war and they are working on bringing troops home and ending the war for good. This is part of the Paris Peace Accords. On March 29, 1973, the last U.S. combat troops left Vietnam.

    In August, President Nixon resigns as a result of Watergate, and is replaced by Gerald Ford. Ford immediately pardons Nixon for “any and all” crimes he may have committed while in office.

    In February, and March the People's Army of Vietnam attacked major cities in the Central Highlands during the disorganized withdrawal, panic consumes the country and there is a collapse in the Region II area.

    After several years, the Vietnam War finally ends. On April 30, 1975, as acting President General Duong Van Minh surrendered to the Communist forces. The Vietnam War which had lasted for nearly 20 years eventually came to an end.
