Hijackers crashed two planes into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York, killing everyone on board and many people in the building. Both buildings collapsed within two hours, causing other nearby buildings to be destroyed or damaged. Hijackers also crashed a third plane into the Pentagon in Arlington County, Virginia, near Washington, DC.
