Toilet Training
Meghan just turned two years old and has finally mastered her toilet training. She has been practicing with diapers for around 8 months and finally grasped autonomy over her excretion. She knows when she needs to go and will do it. Erikson's second stage: Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt. The crisis is between doing things on your own or relying on the help of others. Kids transition from being entirely dependent on others into making their own decisions and having control. -
Meghan's Teenage Identity
As Meghan, 14, enters her freshman year of high school, she has many choices of clubs, sports, and friend groups to be a part of. She joins the volleyball team, the debate club, and makes friends from her marine bio class. This is stage 5: Identity versus Confusion. This is the crisis where teenagers begin to explore their sense of personal identity, with failure leading to confusion. If they succeed, they develop a sense of self and independence that will guide their future decisions. -
Meghan's Late Career
Meghan, 50, is a sonographer, and makes an observation on how ultrasound technology could be improved. She shares it with her clinic, and they share the idea with technicians. Ultrasound technology machines are improved in the city of Anchorage from then on. Stage 7: Generativity vs Stagnation. This stage refers to becoming a part of a bigger picture, and being more involved different communities. Success means creating a positive difference and failure leads to stagnation and unproductivity.
