    Adam-Onis Treaty 1819
    The United States and Spain signed the Adam-Onis treaty of 1819. The Spanish wanted $5 million and part of Texas in exchange for all of Florida. The U.S. agreed just as long as all Spanish forts were destroyed.

    The Missouri Compromise of 1820 was a compromise that said that there should be equal amounts of both free ans slave states.Any state north of the 36 degree parallel line would have to be a free state, if it was part of the Lousiana Purchase.

    The monroe doctrin had 3 main points. The U.S. would not interfere with European politics. The European nations would not take control of the new free colonies. The U.S. would destroy any attempted colonies by any of the superpowers in Europe.

    When Andrew Jackson was defeated in the Election of 1824 because he lost to John Quincy Adams in the house of reperesentatives, he thought that it was a corrupt bargain between John Quincy Adams and the speaker of the house Henry Clay.

    This was the election of 1824. There were four candidates taht tried for the presedential position. There was John Quincy Adams, Henry Clay, Andrew Jackson and William H. Crawford. When the electoral college results came in it turned out that noneof the candidates had won. So the house of representatives would choose from the remaining three (Henry Clay was the speaker of the house and was not allowed as a candidate) candidates. The ended up choosing John Quincy Adams.

    John Quincy Adam was the sixth President of the U.S. He was in fact part of the corrupt bargain that he 'struck' with the speaker of the house Henry Clay. He was a president that believed that the economy should be stimulated by the government (or the exact opposite of lassiez-faire). He was not very popular and only stayed in office for one term.

    The election of 1828 was between the two former rivals John Quincy Adams and the former loser Andrew Jackson. Andrew Jackson won by a landslide because John Quincy Adams was really an unpopular president.

    Andrew Jackson led a succesful life in the Presidential Position. He changed the form of politics completely. He had a spoil system where those that supported him got important and powerful jobs. He also didn't and did support the states at the same time. He ignored the supreme court yet sometimes followed it. He didn't support the rich or the National Bank.
  • The Whig Party

    The Whig Party
    The whig party was created by the sore John Quincy Adams. He and all of his supporters created the national party called the whigs and they wanted the exact opposite of laize-faire in that they wanted the government to stimulate the economy.
