  • "Remember The Maine"

    The Maine, A U.S. ship, was located near Havana, Cuba. It exploded and many believed that Spain blew it up. Over 260 officers and crew members were lost in this tragedy. "Remember the Maine" was used as a cry for revenge during the war. We have evidence today that it was a boiler that caught fire and set off some bombs or gunpowder in the ship, blowing it up.

    U.S. Congress declares war on Spain.
  • Surprise!

    Commodore George Dewey launches a surprise attack on the Spanish fleet in Manila Bay. Dewey destroyed most of the Spanish troops. This helped us win the war due to Theodore Roosevelt's foresight. He told Dewey to go to the Philippines.
  • TR Resigns

    Theodore Roosevelt resigns his post as Assistant Secretary Of The Navy. He went to join the First U.S. Volunteer Cavalry, also known as the Rough Riders.
  • Charge!

    Theodore Roosevelt and the Rough Riders storm Kettle Hill, capture it, then charge San Juan Hills.
  • It's Over!

    The Spanish signed an armistice on August 12th, ending the war.
  • Treaty of Paris

    The U.S. and Spain signed the Treaty of Paris, which dissolved most of the Spanish empire, and also officially ending the war.
