  • U.S. Congress passed a joint resolution that acknowledged Cuban independence

    President William McKinley was given permission to use any military measures to make sure Cuba achieves independence

  • Congress voted to to to war with Spain

    Spain also declared war on America

  • Hawaii becomes U.S. Territory

    U.S. and Spanish government signed the Treaty of Paris

    U.S. gained Puerto Rico, Guam, and bought the Philippines as well as Cuba gaining independence
