    Hester Prynne is being escorted from the town prison with her baby daughter Pearl in her hands . The Scarlett letter "A" is on her breast . People around whisper and murmur that she is being punished for adultary. While waiting for her husband to be back, Hester has had an affair with another man and given birth to a child. She refuses to identify the father of her child.
  • 17TH CENTURY

    Hester's huesband who now refers to himself as Roger Chillingworth, settles in Boston with the intention of seeking revenge. Several years pass and Hester supports her daughter Pearl, who grows up to be a willful, devilish child. Community officials try to take Pearl away from Hester, but thanks to Arthur Dimmesdale, they manage to stay together. Chillinworth suspects a connection between Arthur's torments and Hester's secret.
  • 17TH CENTURY

    Hester's charity deeds and quiet humility, make the community stop torturing her. When Pearl is seven years old her mother and her are on their way home from visisting a deathbed, when they spot Arthur trying to punish himself for his sins. Hester and Pearl join hands with Arthur and Pearls requests him to acknowledge her publicaly the next day, Arthur denies her request. Hester sees that Arthur is only getting worse so she ask Chillingworth to stop adding to Arthur's torment and he refuses.
  • 17TH CENTURY

    Hester arranges to meet with Arthur in the forrest because she knows that Chillingworth guesses that she will reveal his identity to Arthur. They both decide to flee to Europe to live with Pearl as a family. They both feel reliefed and Hester takes the letter of her chest and lets her hair down. While Arthur is giving a sermon, Hester learns that Chillingworth knows their plan and has booked a passage on the same ship. Arthur confesses about Pearl and is killed.
  • 17TH CENTURY

    Chillingworth dies a year later, frustrated with his revenge. Hester and Pearl leave Boston, with no one knowing where they are headed. Years later, Hester returns to her cottage to resume her charity work, still wearing the scarlet letter. Every once in a while, she gets letter from Pearl who married an European aristocrat and now has a family of her own. When Hester dies she is buried next to Arthur and share a tombstone with a scarlet "A".
