  • The First Slaves Arrived in the 13 Colonies

    Significance:
    The start of the economy being dependent on slave labor.
    Different perspectives on slavery were formed.
  • Quakers

    A religious group called "Quakers" formed, one of the first signs of freedmen trying to fight against slavery.
  • The Majority of Some Southern States was Mainly Slaves

    Significance:
    Most of north didn't want slaves, but the south was filled with them, causing more conflict.
  • Georgia Forbids Slavery, Only to Later Change to the Common Liking

    Signifigance:
    It showed how much people relied on slavery, as to not want to live in Georgia because of the antislavery rules. Only when James Oglethorpe changed the law did people come to Georgia.
  • The French and Indian War

    Significance:
    Slaves help fight in the war, gaining respect from some people.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Significance:
    Stated that all men were created equal... not so much..?

    Everything north of the southern border would be automatically free states, anything south would be slave states.

    Argument about if new territories (Mexican Cession) were slave or free states.
  • Rise of the Free-Soil Party

    Anti-expansion of slavery into new territories... few wanted to end slavery as a whole.
