    The Road to Revolution

  • Proclamation of 1763

The Proclamation of 1763 was issued by King George III. This gave the Native Americans all land west of the Appalachian Mountains. Colonists set up here already had to move to another area. The colonists now have a restricted area to grow their colonies into. The colonists will feel as if Britain is trying to contain them, which will cause tension.
  • Sugar Act of 1764

This act brought the tax on mollases down, but added new taxes on things such as sugar, coffee, and certain wines. The colonial economy was affected by this becuase it limited the amount of markets they could sell and trade on.
  • Currency Act of 1764

The colonies attempted to issue their own type of currency as they had no way of obtaining it. This act was put in place to abolish the colonie's attempt at their own currency and forced them to use Britain's currency. Colonists protested this heavily. Britain shut down the colonists attempt at becoming somewhat independent, and this led to further tension.
  • Stamp Act of 1765

This was a tax placed on colonists for every piece of paper the colonists used. While the tax did not really trouble the colonists as far as the cost, it made the colonists feel as if this was creating more chances for Britain to tax them and take money for them. The colonists were very upset and troubled over this act.
  • Quatering Act of 1765

This act was passed in order to provide homes for the soldiers that entered the colonies for protection of the colonists that lived there. Colonists would have to give up their own homes, taverns, inns, or barns to make room for these soldiers. Colonists were furious that they would have to provide a home for these soldiers that they really did not even want invading their colonies.
  • Stamp Act Congress 1765

In this Congress the colonies would each send one representative to discuss whther or not they should follow the numerous taxes that were placed on them. When Britain heard of this they lifted the Stamp Act tax off of the colonies. This protest proved successful for the colonists.
  • Declaratory Act of 1766

This act basically stated that Briatin had completely control iover America. Britain would make all final desiscions and could not be argued against or questioned. America assumed this was so that Britain had control over them and that they could not revolt or attempted to become indepent anymore.
  • Townshend Act of 1767

This was a series of acts passed to raise money in the colonies to pay for judges and governors. The colonists responded to this through refusal and protests. This led to the Boston Massacre.
