  • The French and India War Ends

    The French and India War Ends
    In the French and Indian war the British beat France. The war led to a lot of debt for Britain and the way that Britain dealt with it was to tax the colonies. The colonists were concerned for their future.
  • The Proclamation of 1763

    The Proclamation of 1763
    The King of Britain said that the colonists can't move west into the Ohio River Valley. The Ohio River Valley is the piece of land that Britain and France had just fought over. Britain wanted the land because the colonies had so many people. After they won the battle and the land the king told the colonists that he couldn't protect them if they moved any farther west. The colonists ignored the King of Britain and moved west anyway.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    In England's attempt to get out of debt they gave the colonies a new tax. This taxed sugar and molasses. The colonists were not happy and boycotted English goods. The colonists stared a petition to try and get England to repeal the tax.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act required colonists to get stamps put on newspapers, wills, contracts, playing cards and other important legal documents. The colonists thought that this was outrageous and threw the papers with stamps on them in the fire. Like the other acts the colonists demanded for the stamp act to be repealed.
  • Quartering Act

    The Quartering Act required colonists to house and feed soilders. This aloud soilders to knock on the door and demanded to be taken into the house and to be taken care of. As a result colonists refused to let soilders in their homes.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    The Townshend Act aloud British soilders to search all ships and taxed all imports. England wanted to search ships to make sure that the colonists weren't smuggling goods. As a result of the Townshend Act the colonists smuggled goods and hoped not to be caught.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre was a fight between the British soldiers and the colonists. Unarmed people were shot by the British soldiers. Rocks, muskets, and sticks were used to kill many people. It all started over an insult and a soldier hit a colonist. The colonists fought back after that.
  • Tea Act and Boston Tea Party

    Tea Act and Boston Tea Party
    The Tea Act put a tax on all tea. The colonists also only had one choice of tea. One company had a monopoly. The act put a three pence tax on all tea. In result the Sons of Liberty organized the Boston Tea Party. During the Boston Tea Party 90,000 pounds of tea were dumped into the Boston Harbor. It took them 3 hours to dump all of the tea over bored. 1,000,000 dollars worth of tea was destroyed that day.
  • Intolerable/Coercive Act

    Intolerable/Coercive Act
    The result of the Boston Tea Party was the Intolerable/Coercive act. The colonists called it the Intolerable Act and England called it the Coercive Act. England closed the Boston Harbor until the tea was paid for. The tea was never paid for. Also all court trials were moved to England so the accused had more of a chance of being guilty. England also banned town meetings and strengthed the quartering act.
  • Lexington

    On April 19, 1775 the Battle of Lexington occurred. There were about 60 people from the militia against hundreds of the strongest army in the world, the British army. The British army could fire there muskets four times as fast as the militia. By the end of the battle there were eight farmers from the militia dead and the militia retreated back to Concord.
  • Concord

    Concord
    The Battle of Concord started when the militia saw an opportunity to get even with the British soldiers and took it. The British soldiers were just starting their ten mile journey back to Boston. It was the start of the Revolutionary War. Nobody knows exactly who fired the first shot, but it is known as "The shot heard 'round the world."
