  • George Grenville becomes prime minister

    A man who became prime minister in 1763. He was determined to reduce the debt in Britain.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    A proclamation decared by King George III. It created some more colonies but also focused on other things too. It mainly made a lot more laws and regulations about Indian lands.
  • The Sugar Act

    Was a British act that was used to help stop smuggling. Many colonists were angered by it. they said their rights as Englishman were being taken away.
  • The Stamp Act

    Parliament passed a law in an effort to raise money to pay off debts. The act placed a tax on almost all printed material in the colonies.
  • Stamp act repealed and Declaratory act

    Parliament repeals stamp act due to colonists' demands. On the same day the Declaratory act is passed. The act says that Parliament has the right to make decisions and tax the colonies in any case.
  • Townshend Acts

    Parliament passed this soon after the Stamp acts crisis. The british leaders tried to avoid the problems that the Stamp Act made. It mainly put a tax on imported goods.
  • The Boycott

    This boycott was widespread throughout the colonies. It was more widespread than the Stamp Acts boycott. Many more people became more independent on themselves. It made the American colonies more economically independent.
  • The Boston Massacre

    On that day a fight broke out between the redcoats and the colonists. Five Americans were killed by the soldiers.
  • The Coercive acts

    The acts were very harsh on the colonists. They were intened to punish the people of Massachusetts for the Boston Tea Party. The Coercive acts closed down Boston Harbor.
  • Lexington and Concord

    British troops marching to Concord and then to Lexington. When they reached Concord there was hardly any gunpowder left there. On the way to Lexington many of the British troops were fired upon and they were wounded and killed.
