  • The French and Indian War

    William Pitt, being Britain's Prime Minister was very effective in the French and Indian War. One of his achievements was that he told the Royal Navy to cut off the French ships that were crossing the Atlantic Ocean. He affected the war by helping the British side win.
  • The Quartering Act

    The Quartering Act
    The colonists were forced to take soldiers in their homes, feed them, and give them somewhere to sleep. They were mad because they claimed that their privacy was taken away and they said it was like a hidden tax. This made the colonists mad, which led to protests.
  • The Writs of Assistance

    With the writs of assistance, the British could search a colonist's house without a search warrant or a reason for the search. This law was to enforce trade and the navigational acts. After many other acts were made, the colonists revolted.
  • The Committees of Correspondence

    The Committees of Correspondence
    Samuel Adams made the first Committee of Correspondence to talk about how badly the British were treating them. The committee was important because it connected the colonies in a way they never had before, which helped connect the colonies. It also connected the leaders in the war from the patriotic side.

    The Tea Act was the cause of the Boston Tea Party. It was where the British taxed the colonists on tea. The colonists were very mad because most of them drank tea every day.

    "The shot heard round the world" was very important because it marked the beginning of the war. this happened because the colonists were tired of the British bossing them around, so the colonists stood up to them.
  • Women

    When men left to fight in the war, women were left to run their husbands' buisnesses. This was important because it gave women more confidence. Before the war they were very limited, but during the war they had less boundaries.
  • The Battle of Bunker Hill

    The Battle of Bunker Hill
    The Battle of Bunker Hill was the first official battle of the revolutionary war. It was important because no one expected the Americans would have a chance against the British, but they did. They proved everyone wrong. Also, this battle was important because it was when Washington realized he needed a real army and powerful weapons.
  • The Declaration of Independence

    The Declaration of Independence was written by Thomas Jefferson. It is broken down into four parts: the Preamble, the Protection of Natural Rights, the Grievances Against the King, and the Declaring of Independence. The Declaration obviously affected Americans by being one of the causes of the Revolutionary War, but it also encouraged other nations to fight for independence.
  • Nathan Hale

    Nathan Hale
    Nathan Hale was a spy for America from Connecticut. He was caught by the British and hung, his last words were, "I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country." In this quote, Hale is saying that he would do this for his country over and over. This was and still is very inspirational to Americans.
  • African Americans in the War

    African American soldiers started fighting in the war after the British offered freedom to the enslaved people because the Americans needed more soldiers to fight. Even though many northern militias welcomed African Americans, most southern states did not allow African Americans in their militia in fear of armed revolts.
  • The Battle of Saratoga

    The Battle of Saratoga was a battle in New York where the British were trying to come from three directions Their plan failed when the colonists cut off soldiers from one direction and no soldiers came from another direction. This was an important win for the colonists because they were trying to become allies with France at the time and when the French heard this news, they wanted to be allies with the colonists.
  • Valley Forge

    Valley Forge
    Valley Forge was a camp set up by Washington's army in Pennisylvania in the winter. It was very hard for many reasons, one of which is that some colonists didn't have clothes or socks because they were coming from battle. This affected many Americans because it showed them bravery and patriotism.
  • The Battle of Yorktown

    The Battle of Yorktown
    The Battle of Yorktown was the last large battle in the war. The British general, Charles Cornwallis was cornered in by Washington's army and the French navy. It was very important because it basically ended the war.
  • The Treaty of Paris

    After so much fighting the war finally ended, with the Treaty of Paris. The boundries of America were set and a few rules were placed, then we became a free nation, for the most part. The war had lasted close to exactly eight years from the "shot heard round the world." The Treaty of Paris was signed on April 15, 1783.
