Humanism was the belief that every thing was created by nature and science and that there is no one god or many gods. It was believed that humans, nature, and science were the center of all things.

Johannes Gutenburg Creates the Printing Press

We don't know the exact date, but in the year 1440 Johannes Gutenburg invented the printing press. The printing press allowed us to print large amount of text in the fastest amount of time possible.(In their tine period.)

Donatello

Donatello was one of the most famous artists and sculptures in the renaissance. A very famous sculpture of him was David created in 1440. He was born sometime in 1386 and died December 13 1466. his full name is Donato di Niccolo di Betto Bardi.

Lorenzo De Medici

Lorenzo De Medici was a statesman. He and his brother ruled Florence Italy. His son was Pope Leo X. He ruled from 1478-1492

Michelangelo begins painting the ceiling Sistine Chapel

Michelangelo stared the painting in 1473. In 1477-78' the mural was restored by Pope Sixtus IV.

Botticelli Completes "The Birth of Venus"

In 1486 Sandro Botticelli completed "The Birth of Venus." This painting took 4 years to create.

Christopher Columbus

On August 3, 1492 Christopher Columbus was sent by King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella. He sailed to what he thought was the Indies but later he found to be America. Later in 1493 he found Puerto Rico. It is argued we shouldn't even be celebrating him because, when he landed there were already Native Americans there.

Da Vinci paints "The Last Supper"

In 1498 Leonardo Da Vinci created the the last supper. The scene represents Jesus at the last supper with his disciples.

Desiderius Erasmus

Desiderius Erasmus was a Dutch humanist. He was born on October 28 1466 and died July 12 1536. He went to the school Brothers of the Common Life. He later moved to Paris to become a scholar. During the early 1500's he began to teach at University of Cambridge in England. Erasmus became truly protestant about humanism after the Reformation.

Da Vinci Paints the "Mona Lisa"

The Mona Lisa is considered the world most famous peices of artwork. This peice of work is surrounded by mystery. We still don't know how long it took DaVinci to paint it or why she doesn't have eyebrows.

Henry VIII becomes king of England

Henry VIII was born June 28 1491, and died January 28 1547. While he was king he had 6 wives. He began to rule in 1509 at 18 years old. He was well known for his love of hunting and dancing.

Pope Leo X

Pope Leo X was born in December 11, 1475 in Florence Italy. He died on December 1, 1521 in Rome. His dad was Lorenzo de Medici. He began his reign March 9th 1513 until he died in 1521.

Juan Ponce de Leon

Juan Ponce de Leon was a Spanish explorer he discovered what he thought to have been the fountain of youth. He found and named Florida. Also while on a quest for gold he went to Puerto Rico 21 years after Columbus. Juan Ponce de Leon was only 4' 11".

Martin Luther posts 95 Theses

Martin Luther was born in Germany 1483, and died February 18, 1546. In 1517 he posted the 95 Theses on the door of the Church of Wittenberg. Later that year he had the 95 Theses published.

The Reformation

The Reformation occurred when people started disagreeing with the way the Roman Catholic Church taught. Martin Luther was mainly trying to protest about "indulgences". Back in the Renaissance it was believed that no one on earth could be good enough for god. So the good works of the saints were sold to the people. Luther thought it was completely wrong and decided to protest.

Charles V Holy Roman Emperor

Charles V was the Holy Roman Emperor he had right to many powerhouse countries such as Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Germany and more. His grand-parents were King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella. He reigned from June 28, 1519 to August 28, 1556.

Titian

Titian was born sometime in 1490 and died on August 27 1576 in Pieve di Cadore, Italy. He painted for many famous leaders such as, Pope Paul III, King Philip II, and Roman Emperor Charles V. He died of the Plague which his son also died from. Some of his painting where, Venus of Urbino, Christ and Mary Magdalene and La Bella,

Willam Shakespeare

William Shakespeare was an English actor, poet and play writer. He occurred in the late stages of the Renaissance his most famous play was Hamlet written in 1602. One of his famous poems was Venus and Adonis.

Raphael

Raphael was born April 1483 and died April 6 1520. He was a famous in the late 1400s and early 1500s. A very famous piece of his was the School of Athens. It represented Aristotle and Plato at a school in Athens. The painting was finished in 1509.
