    March 3, 1904 was the beinning of building of the Panama. Many people did not think the U.S could do it. But they wanted to prove that they could do it. It was very dangerous but good money.

    Some complications were, the workers had to work in the tropical sun and in rain storms. They had a huge problem with mudslides. The workers were always complaining about digging. They had to cut a 9-mile ditch through the mountains. Thats why workers were dying. More than 6,000 workers died.

They had to sleep with nets around them. Gorgas was the one that found a cure. He cleared nearly 500 square miles of swamp and jungle. Also americans poured $128 million in for a cure. Finally Yellow fever passed and that was the last day someone died.
