    Roosevelt's Offer
    Roosevlet offered columbia $10 million in cash and $250,000 yearly in rent to allow the U.S. to build the Panama Canal throught Panama. Alot of columbians were against it because it would give the U.S. control over a six mile wide stretch of columbian territory, Other claimed the rights were wort far more than what the U.S. had offered. Colmbia held out for the money but, the U.S. & Roosaevelt were impactient and didnt want to wait any longer.

    A revolt took place on nov. 3 1903, U.S. gunboats waited in the harvor to provide support for the rebels, and U.S. marines stopped hostile columbian troops in colon before they trached panama city. Many Americans were alarmed by Roosevelts role in the rebellion, critising his "Gunboat diplomacy"

(a corollary is a logical extension of a foctrine or pro Presidnt Rooseveltargued when a neighbor of the United States got into disputes with foreigh nations the U.S. had the right to "exercise.... Internation police power" to restore order. Roosevelt sent marines to the dominican republic and took over the countries finances.
  • struggles through out

    There were many struggles through out the building of the Panama Canal. one being the fighting of diseases, like yellow fever and malaria. another one would be the difficulties while digging through the gaillird cut, a 9-mile ditch through the mountains. thousands of men worked a day after day under the tropical sun or in drenching rainstorms. Mudslides were also a big problem,. To many workers, and it still seemed like the digging would never end.

    Many problems with beginning to start building the panama canal were the diseases. panama was infested with yellow fever and malria. William C. Gorgas had discovered that the diseases were transmitter through infect misqutoes. He had come up small little things like cleaning up shrubs, and making sure there was no still water anywhere. By 1906, Williams plans had almost completly wiped out yellow fever and malaria.

    dispite all of the problems wand delays, They still finished the Panama Canal 6 months ahead of schedule. They opened the Panama Canal in 1914 anf after years of work, the pacific and atlantic oceans were joined.
