    Panama was a province of the columbian territory. Roosevelt payed ten million dollars and yearly rent he payed two hundred fifty thousand dollars so the U,s could build the canal. The U.S agreed to buy right to the canal property and equipment for not to exceed the forty million dollars.

Gorgas was an American expert on tropical diseases tried to figure out the problem.CArlos Juan Finlay discovered that yellow fever was caused by a certain type of mosquito. In 1906 Gorgas nearly made yellow fever disappear and decrease malaria in Panama. Mudslides were a continous problem.
