Choosing somewhere to build the canal
Panama was a province of the columbian territory. Roosevelt payed ten million dollars and yearly rent he payed two hundred fifty thousand dollars so the U,s could build the canal. The U.S agreed to buy right to the canal property and equipment for not to exceed the forty million dollars. -
A revolt took place
The U.S. gunboats waited in the harbor so that they could support the rebels. Also to prevent hostile columbian troops,marines were in colon.alot of heard about roosevelt being in the revolt this is known as the "Gunboat Diplomacy". -
Paying the cost
a frenchman signed a treaty giving the U.S. everlasting use and control of a 10 mile wide place across the ishmus of Panama. The U.S payed 10 million dollars for it, and they payed 250,000 dollars a year for rent. they Payed this money so they can build the Panama Canal. -

the food was rotting and smelled bad, and the living conditions were dreadful. Diseases hit, these diseases included yellow fever and malaria. Most Americans booked passagge homes. -

One of the struggles when building the Panama canal was disease. Diseases spread through Panama quickly, and people couldnt work until diseases were under control. William C. Gorgas was an American expert on tropical diseases tried to figure out the problem.CArlos Juan Finlay discovered that yellow fever was caused by a certain type of mosquito. In 1906 Gorgas nearly made yellow fever disappear and decrease malaria in Panama. Mudslides were a continous problem. -

In 1906 Roosevelt Visited the Panama Canal, he went to see how they were working and how far they have come. he took a photo of himslef working the controls on a big steam shovel. Roosevelt was the first to make a state visit while in office his trip to panama showed how presidents conduct diplomatic connections with other contries. -
