Chapter 1 and 2
In chapter 1, we find out that Ponyboy Curtis, the main character, is nattaring the story. There is 2 "gangs" in this story, the Greasers, who are the lower class gang who live on the east side. The socials, known as the socs, they are the higher class, snobby west side kids.
In these chapters Ponyboy, Johnny, Two-Bit and Dallas go to the movies and meet Cherrry and Marcia. Johnny stands up for himself. Sodapop wants to marry his girlfriend Sandy, Ponyboy told Cherry about Johnny getting jumped. -

Chapter 3 and 4
the greasers drive the girls home. As Ponyboy talks to Cherry. He realizes the socs and greasers might not be so different. Socs see the greasers with Cherry and Marcia and almost get into a fight. After the girls left, 5 socs approach Ponyboy and Johnny. A socs trys to drown Ponyboy and Johnny kills the soc with his switchblade. The boys find Dally, tell him what they did, and he tells them to get on a train to Windrexville. They find an empty church and sleep there. -
Chapter 5 and 6
Ponyboy wakes up in the church to find a note from Johnny saying he went to get supplies. Johnny brings back peroxide, Gone With the Wind,baloney, cigarettes and Cards.To disguse themselves, Johnny cuts his own hair and bleachs and cuts Ponyboys. They recite Robert Frosts peom. Dally comes to check on them, he brings a note from Soda. Dally takes them for Dairy Queen, and Johnny decides to turn himself in. When they get back to the church, its on fire! All three boys go in to save the children. -
Chapter 5 and 6 continued...
Dally and Ponyboy suffer minor injuries but Johnny breaks his back from a piece of burning timber. All of them are taken away by ambulence -
Chapter 7 and 8
At the hospital, Ponyboy is interviewed by reporters. They find out Johnny is in critial condition. Johnny Ponyboy and Dally are heros. Johnny refuses tosee his mother. Ponyboy finds out the Curtis Brothers might be split up. They go to see Dally and he askes for Two-Bits switchblade. Two-Bit and Pony meet Randy at the tasty freeze, and he says he wont be in the rumble. Ponyboy is sick, but still wants to participate in the rumble. -
Chapter 9 and 10.
The greasers win the rumble, but Ponyboy suffers a concussion. Dally and Ponyboy go to see Johnny in the hospital and Johnny dies. Dally acts wildly after Johnny dies and robs a store. Police find Dally, he pulls out a unloaded gun and Police shoot Dally and he dies. -
Chapter 11 and 12
Randy visits Ponyboy and they talk about the hearing. Ponyboy is hallucinating and believes he killed Bob. At he hearing, Judge askes Ponyboy about his home life and he is acquitted. Socs threaten Ponyboys but he defends himself with a broken bottle. Ponyboy finds a note from Johnny in his book, Gone With the Wind. Ponyboy has to do a project to make up all the school he missed. he does it on his experinces with the socs and greasers, and writes the book.
