Explanation: In this part, Pony first know socs girl Cherry make friends. From the scene that Dally molests Cherry, we could know more about Dally’s character, a mean guy. can be stopped by Johnny, a little guy. -

When Johnny and Ponyboy walk in the park, they see the blue mustang from before with five Socs, including Bob and Randy. They get out and try to attack the pair. Ponyboy enrages Bob, who attempt to drown him in a nearby fountain, Johnny is scared, so he kills Bob with his knife.

They spend the next few days passing the time reading Gone With the Wind and smoking. Ponyboy tells Johnny the poem called "Nothing Gold Can Stay '' by Robert Frost. They enjoy it so much and see the sunset. Darry comes to take them the message that Socs and Greasers are going to have a rumble. Cherry will be their spy. -

Gone with the wind is a very important clue of the whole novel. Johnny and Ponyboy enjoy the sunset together and have lots of feelings as the poem ‘Nothing gold can stay’ shows. They learn something about this for the first time. Furthermore, they understand something significant in their life which they have never known. They start to know the value of cherishment. The coming rumble means there will be a storm very soon. -

Cherry says she will help Johnny to prove in the court that he killed Bob due to self-defense, but Johnny tells Dally that he wants to go back to town and pay for his crimes. That means Socs are not all bad and Greasers are also kind. When Johnny and Pony save the children from fire, they don’t think about their self safety. They are extremely selfless and helpful. Children’s teacher Jerry shows his great gratitude to they three and don’t believe they are Greasers. Pony’s brothers come to the hospital to see them and Pony first feels the love from his brother Darry.
From this part, Jerry, who represents the public shows his prejudice to Greasers. We can draw the conclusion that people shouldn’t judge a person by his group, because it is unfair. As for Ponyboy, his misunderstanding with Darry finally disappears. -

Pony boy and Two-Bit visit Johnny in the hospital. They realize that Johnny might die. Johnny speaks about his life. He feels very sad that he still has many things to do but he doesn’t have time. His life before was so wrong. Then his mother comes and he refuses to see his mother. After they talk for a while, the nurse forces them out, so they go visit Dally. Dally asks Two-Bit for his switchblade to be used to avenge Johnny in the rumble. -

After Johnny dies, Ponyboy runs home and tells greasers about the death of Johnny. Dally can't take it and he robs a store. Police chase him and are just going to take him to jail. When he pulls unloaded gun out, but not knowing it is not loaded, police open gun to shot him. Ponyboy passes out because of sickness, and wake up three days later.
Explanation:In this part, Dallas purposely did this because Johnny, the only person he could ever love was gone and there was no other reason to live. -
