In 2000 a study done by the University of Michigan discovered that 29.7% of girls in high school reported to have smoked within the past 30 days. 32.8% of boys in high school reported to have smoked within the past 30 days. -
Phillip Morris and R.J. Reynolds tobacco companies were fined millions of dollars for not informing public that there were health concerns involved with nicotine and smoking. The public responded with the "World No-Tobacco Day". The slogan of the campaign was, "Tobacco Kills - Don't be duped".

Percentage of smoking decreased in 10 years
Smoking percentages from young adults 18-24 are continuing to drop. Males have dropped from 28% in 2005 to 22.8% in 2010. Females have decreased smoking from 20.7% in 2005 to 17.4% in 2010. Over the past 10 years males have decreased cigarette smoking by 10% and women have decreased the habit by 12.3%
