    America asked 10 million in cash for Colombia and $250,000 for rent for the year so that US can bulid the canal but Colombia didnt like the canal being built because it would give US control over some of there land and also Colombia wanted more money because they thought their land was worth more than what they where offering to them.That same year the Spooner Bill was passed.

    In November 6,1903 US helped Panama get independence, Panama declared independece. After Panama claming independence the US gave support for the rebels so the colombians troops wont get Panama city. America agreed to give the same offer that they asked for Colombia but Panama agreed to take it and America was able to rent Panama for $250,000 and give them 10 million. Panimas nation was made and so was the buliding of the Panama canal.

    Teddy Roosevelt said " to make the dirt fly" when they started to build the Panama Canal on there purchace of land that cost $40 million. Ferdinand estimated that it would take 12 years to bulid the Canal.

    Teddy Roosevelt wanted to work on the canal as soon as they can. While working on the canal 6,000 soldiers died some off of yellow fever and malaria, bubonic plague.

    Doctor William C. Gorgas wanted to see what was causing people to get sick and what got him sick as well. He later found out what was geting people sick and it was called Yellow fever. To help get rid of virus Gorgas sprayed chemicals in the air that would kill the mosquitos that casued this disease.While spraying chemicals and other ideas he had thought of caused the yellow fever to die down and go away from Panama.

    The French tired to bulid the canal but they never where able to. The US was able to bulid the canal. after the attempt of the French. Years later america fisnhed buliding the Panama Canal and it was open and ready to be used.
