    The Beggining
http://www.slideshare.net/anniekrespil/background-information-for-the-kite-runner The Kite Runner starts as early as the time when Amir Akrami is born, giving a bit of background and foreshadowing. At his birth, it is discovered that his mother, Sofia Akrami, dies at childbirth. As he grows, he explains that he feels much closer to his father’s friend (Rahim Khan) rather than his own father, showing that his father, Baba might not be getting along with Amir because in a sense it had been his fault killing Sofia.

    A writing talent
It is shown in the book that Hassan cannot read so Amir reads to him, making fun of him and even straying from the original story, making up something as he goes. One day, when he does stray from the story and finishes at his own turn, Hassan expresses his liking to the story and that it is the best he has ever read, and Amir, surprised, reveals that it had been him and thanks Hassan for loving his story.

    The Kite Runner
In Afghanistan, the children have their vacation in the winter because of the snowing and it is that at this time of the year the children have a kite flying competition. This year, Amir had won and Hassan ran after the blue kite that Amir had brought down, running into trouble of his own. Amir finds Hassan in an alley surrounded by Assef and his two ‘friends’, raping Hassan in the end.

    Blood Money
It is shown that Amir feels guilty and blames himself, straining his relationship with Hassan, even when Hassan is shown to have put the past behind him. After his birthday party, Amir throws all his gifts from the party in a corner and calls the gifts “blood money” because if he hadn’t sacrificed Hassan he would have never gotten them and feels guilty. Amir never again touched the gifts, including Hassan’s because of his guilt.
  • Goodbye, my friend

    Goodbye, my friend
It is shown that Amir does anything and everything possible to not see Hassan, and goes as far as asking Baba to fire them and get new Hazara’s for servants. Baba is enraged by this and makes it clear that they are not leaving the house, ever, because they are family. Amir takes the watch Baba had given him for his birthday and a handful of Afghani bills from his birthday and places them under Hassan’s mattress, accusing Hassan of having taken them. Ali and Hassan leave even after being forgiven

    Goodbye, my home
At 18, Amir and Baba leave their house secretly to escape the war. They go through checkpoints with the help of Russian soldier’s (though they still have to pay). Knowing he wasn’t going to return to Afghanistan, Baba fills his cigarette box with Afghan soil before entering Pakistan. They leave on a plane ride later on to the United States, for Amir to have a better life and education.
  • Marriage

    Marriage
A few years later, Amir tells of how he and Baba have settled in California, how he had graduated from high school and how every Sunday they go to a flea market where the Afghan’s go to sell for profit. In this point in the book, Amir meets an Afghan girl whom he falls for. Sadly, Baba also discovers that he has cancer and the wedding for Amir and his loved one, Soraya, get married earlier just before Baba dies.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/afghanistan/8287154/Shocking-footage-emerges-of-Taliban-stoning-couple-to-death.html Rahim Khan calls from Pakistan telling Amir that there is a way to be good again. When Amir arrives, Rahim Khan tells him the truth and how it is Amir’s duty to redeem himself by saving Sohrab from Afghanistan. In finding Sohrab, Amir had witnessed a stoning of two people. Assef had offered Amir a choice, that if he could beat him in a fight for Sohrab and win, both would be able to leave free. Before Amir could die, Sohrab uses his slingshot and takes out one of Assef’s eyes.
  • Redemption

    Redemption
Amir is taken to the hospital to heal, receiving a letter from Rahim Khan and realizing that he was to adopt Sohrab. Trying to find a way to adopt Sohrab, the lawyer assumes one option that Amir knew Sohrab would not like. Later that night after telling him what was going to happen, Sohrab tries to commit suicide before Amir gets the chance to tell him a new solution to their adoption problem. Sohrab is taken to the hospital. Later on Amir and Sohrab go to the states where Sohrab remains silent.

http://www.cliffsnotes.com/literature/k/the-kite-runner/about-the-kite-runnerA year has passed and Sohrab has remained silent. As a way to mend things between them, Amir offers to fly a kite with him in the small kite flying competition. This helps mend the bond, so far as Amir saying “For you a thousand times over” in catching the kite they had brought down.
