The Jim Crow laws lasted from 1877 to 1954. these laws caused “separate but equal". this changed things to being called colored bathrooms, colored seating, etc. “These segregation practices affected every aspect of daily life, becoming enforced in professional offices, building entrances, schools, hospitals.” (1 Unknown). Mostly because of the widespread violence at the time, the NAACP was originally founded by an African American group. They organized an anti - lynching campaign in 1917, " some 10,000 people in New York City participated in an NAACP-organized silent march to protest lynchings and other violence against Black people."( 3 History). They still continue to this day fighting for interacial rights.

African Americans were permitted to enlist in the military during World War I. However, they remained largely separated while in training and even throughout most of the war since Jim Crow laws would still be in current existence. "The government made no provision for military training of black officers and soon created segregated training camps for that purpose" (1 unknown).

African American children and white children were separated in school due to the color of their skin. Brown believed that the education was unfair toward the African American children so he fought to make it equal. Though not going through it started many other events, "..fueled the nascent civil rights movement in the United States." (1 History). This led to the bus boycotts and many other movements.

His actions first started when Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on a bus to a white male. King then demanded equal seating on buses, "The demands included fair seating for all and courteous treatment by bus operators." (1 Gundy). King was thrown into jail for the boycott, and his house was bombed. King was later assassinated, but the movement went on.

The Civil Rights Act is the act that helped with segregation, and the ending of it. "The Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, sex or national origin." (1 Unknown). Lyndon B. Johnson was the president at the time, and who agreed to sign the Civil Rights Act.

The Voting Rights Act was an act that let African Americans the right to vote. " authorized the U.S. attorney general to investigate the use of poll taxes in state and local elections." Lyndon B Johnson also signed this act during the civil rights movement. This helped with the coming together after the segregation laws. Malcolm X was an African American Muslim. The reason he changed his name is that it originally was a slaveowner's name. Malcolm did many speeches and protests until one day he was assassinated by his own African American Muslim group because he noticed that what he was talking about was what the religion didn't want and they did not like what he was saying.

In 1968 African Americans were not offered the same things a white man was offered such as buying a house. There was discrimination when it came to them buying a house and people could deny them the right to buy the house they wanted. "The Fair Housing Act makes it illegal to harass persons because of race, color, religion, sex" (1 Federal).

Barack Obama was the first Black president of the United States of America. He was part of the democratic party He was elected in 2008. He made many acts like Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Re authorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010.
