The iPod was an amazing portable music device invented in 2001 by the Macintosh using the same OS platform. there was not much good press when it was released, saying over priced and who would carry their whole music library with them. But to the faithful Mac users the product took off.

The 2004 iPods came in five new colors . Breaking away from the classic white case. also sizing down the iPods from the "Deck of Cards" to a smaller package the size of chewing gum. Also released that year was iPod photo. the ability to add your own photos to your photo library. something we now have on iPhones

Flash version of the iPod, named iPod shuffle and Nano
Shuffle versions had a newer type of memory called flash. Without a display or the touch wheel to select music as in the Classic iPods the shuffle did some what well. the iPod also could be used as a thumb drive.

iPods get larger storage capacity 80Gb, U2 gets iPod nod
Probably the time when iPods about peaked out. As iPods were getting endorsed and personalized by musical celebrities like U2 and Madonna. Storage capabilities were hitting 80 Gb roughly about 7500 songs and a lot of photos.

As the iPhone now gets introduced, most of the breakthrough features the Ipod have been compiling are now on the iPhone.Music, photos and now cell phone capability. The iPod starts to become the second fiddle.
