    Creation of the League of Nations
    The League of Nations started in Geneva, Switzerland in the 1920's. It was propsed by President of the United States, although the United States never actually joined. The League of Nations was intended to maintain world peace and prevent another world war.
    This was significant because it helped keep peace for a short period of time, until countries such as Germany and Japan dropped out. It then set the way for the U.N which has had a huge impact on everyone today.

  • The Japanese Invasion of Manchuria

    The Japanese Invasion of Manchuria
    The Japanses invasion of Manchuria started when Manchuria was invaded by the Kwantung Army of Japan. They then created the Manchuko State and their occupation lasted until the End of World War II
    This lead to the United States boycott of raw material to Japan. Japan started going to the South Pacific for oil and rubber, this set the United States and Britain against Japan.

    Invasion of Abyssinia
    The Italian military invaded Abyssinia to gain back pride lost when the Abyssinia defeated the Italians in 1896. In 1928 the Italy signed a treaty of friendship with Abyssinia all while planning the invasion.
    The invasion of Abyssinia created tension in Europe. It also drove Germany and Italy together, and brought notice upon how weak the League truly was.

  • Hitler's Program of Rearmament

    Hitler's Program of Rearmament
    Hitler had been allowing the German military to grow secretly. Once the military was large enough he announced that he would no longer follow the rule in the Treaty of Versailles that stated Germany must keep a small sized military.
    This was the start of appeasement. Britian lossened the terms on versailles and announces that they think it was too harsh. This helps stabilize Europe and shift the feelings of anger felt by the Germans.

    Reoccupation of the Rhineland
    Hitler and 32000 German troops go invade and take back Rhineland. France was busy in elections so they stood by and didn't do anything, and Britian simply watched because they believed that it truly belonged to the Germans in the first place.
    This was the first time the Germans technically violated Versailles and no one stopped them. This made Hitler more popular in the eyes of German citizens and gave him more power.

    Spanish Civil War
    Republicans fought against the rebel group, but the rebel group wins out and rules Spain for 36 years.
    The republican army was one third larger than the nationalist army, and the German army helped the nationalist in the war. This lead to a new allie between them.

    Anschluss with Austria
    Hitler announces a union between Germany and Austria. This essentially blends Austria into Germany creating a strong country.
    This went against Versailles and gave Germany and Hitler even more power and land.

    The Munich Conference
    The Munich Conference was an agreement giving Germany the Czechoslovakia areas along the countries border. Most of the citizens already spoke german and the new land was called Sudetenland.
    In return for getting this land Hitler promised to not expand Germany's land anymore in Europe. It became apparant to Britain and France just how strong Germany was becoming and how well Hitler could find ways to get what he wanted.

    The Invasion of the Rest of Czechoslovakia by Germany
    The area that Germany previously took of Czechoslovakia consisted of all of their resources so Czechoslovakia tried to take it back.Hitler and Germany invaded all of Czechoslovakia and took control of the land and the people.
    This helped the German and Hungary alliance grow stronger. This also gave Hitler more land and people that would be loyal to him.

    The Nazi-Soviet Pact
    Germany and The Soviet Union met and signed an agreement stating that neither country would attack the other.
    This took The Soviet Union away as a possible allie partner for either the British or the France. This gave Germany more safety as they didn't have to worry about protecting that part of the border.

    Poland was invaded by Germany, and the Soviet Union. Poland retreated and waited for help from there allies with Britain and France.
    This was the start of World War II.
