A group of common citizens organized to help the Jews. This group was suspected in attempting to assassinate Hitler in 1944. An organized group of citizens worked to help the Jews during the war. The Resistance was suspected to be the group that attempted to assiassinate Hitler.

Hitler was worried that the regular soldiers in his army had not given an oath of allegiance. The Night of the Long Knives was when Hitler had his loyal soldiers kill many of his regular army leaders. Those left gave their oath of allegiance to Hilter.

The Nazi's decided to remove all the prisoners from their concentration camps when they knew the Allies were getting close. The three reasons they emptied the camps was:
1. The Nazis didn't want the Allies to have any living Jews tell their stories of torture.
2. The Nazis thought they could use Jews as hostages.
3. They could use prisoners to continue to build weapons and ammunition.
The death marches lasted until Spring, 1945. Thousands of prisoners died while forced to march. -
President Franklin Roosevelt died on April 12,1945. He died of a stroke. He died duiring the Holocaust.

Illegal immigration of Jews grew rapidly as many Holocaust survivors escaped to Palestine. On Nov. 29, 1947 the United Nations announced it plan to partitian Palistine. This prompted David Ben-Gurion to became the leader of the Jewish defence group Haganah. This led to the future creation of Israel.
