  • Taxation Without Representation

    Taxation Without Representation
    Great Britain taxed the colonist and required for them to have them be representatives. The British wanted the colonists to be legislators and vote. They also belived in virtual representation where everyone is a representative. America wanted to run their own government.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    Since the British didn't have enough money, they put taxes on stamps. Many papers and letters in that time were stamped. Many people didn't want to do the tax. Because of that there were many riots and violence against supposed tax agents and public demostrators.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    Since the stamp act didn't work and the British needed more money, the British decided to do the townshend act. It's when Charles Townshend listened to some objections, then made taxes on lead, glass, paper, and tea. The colonists complained so much that the British took of tax on everything except tea. This led into the Boston Tea Party.

    Some men disguised as Indians snuck into three ships one night. They dumped 340 boxes (92,000 lbs) of tea in three hours It was because the tea was taxed and many people were unhappy about it. This led into the first war in America, the Relvolutionary War.

    The first Contienal Congress met from September 5th to October 26th. People in the colonies picked colonists to represent the their colony. Peyton Randolph was the president of the Contienal Congress. At first, there was a lot of distrust, then they gradulley began to trust each other. All the Contienal Congress agreed that the British should understand and take care of all of the colonists' troubles.

    Battles of Lexington and Concord
    The colonists knew the British's plans. They organized a miltia called Minutemen to fight the British. This was the colonists' first battle and they wre outnumbered. Messenges reached the cities from messengers. The British didin't destroy much of their supplies.

    The founding fathers worked together tho write the Declaration of Independence. Thomas Jefferson is known as the 'leader' of the Founding Fathers. He wrote the draft of the Declaration of Independence. The papers stated that America should've independence from Great Britain.

    This is a battle where the British lost to the colonists. It was the main thing that made France decide to help the colonists. Without France help the colonists would probaley have lost. Gates led the attack for the colonists' side and Burgoyne led the attack for the British side.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    The British were corned by the sea. The French blocked any help from Great Britain. Then the colonists and the French started shooting. Once the white flag of surrender came up, all the shooting stopped. The colonists have won the war!!

    The Peace Treaty of 1783 was named after the city it was signed in. The American signers were Johnadams, Benjamin Franklin, and John Jay. The British and the American agreed peace on many theins. Such as fishing places, peace between Great Britain and America, and most importantly the United States of Ameica will be free from the British!!
