In Scotland, William Cullen created the concept of mechanical & chemical refrigeration. This is done with a process called compression. That is when a liquid is quickly vaporized the quickly expanding vapor requires kinetic energy. Then draws the energy needed from the direct area & it loses energy so it gets colder.

The first cooled water system.

William Cullen was the first man to create the first known attempt of vapor comptesstion. This is how he created the first cooled water system. He did this by drawing a vacuum over his first invention of the mechanical refrigerator.

A man named, Thomas Moore created a box-within-a-box he called it the refrigerator. He created this for the pourpose of preserving food.
