The History of Skateboarding

  • Skateboarding is born

    Skateboarding was first brought into this world in the 1940s and 1950s.
  • Girls started skating

    1945 is when people noticed girls started to skate
  • Skateboarding was looked down upon

    Skating wasnt payed attention to. No one cared for it and people looked down on it.
  • Police have had enough

    Police and Citizens are done with skateboarders. They are thought of as bad and devilish.
  • Skateboarding was considered illegal

    Skateboarding was so looked down upon it was considered illegal by the eyes of police and citizens. It was never actually illegal though.
  • First skate contest

    In 1963 Makaha formed the first professional skateboard team, and that same year the first skateboard competition was held in Hermosa, California. It included events in freestyle and downhill slalom skateboarding.
  • Skateboard wheels were changed

    Wheels use to me clay but now they have changed them to polyurethane
  • Skateboarding takes off

    summer of 1975 is when skateboarding really took off. The Z-boys and other skate teams were competing around the world.
  • Thrasher mag was created

    Thrasher magazine was created and skateboarding became well known around the world.
  • The skateboard changed

    More and more skate companies were being produced and they started coming up with new ways to shape the skateboard
