    The Charter of 1732
    The Charter of 1732 was the document that created the colony of Georgia. It was granted to James Oglethorpe by King Geroge II, who was the current ruler of England. It said that there were 3 reasons for founding the colony. They were charity, economy, and defense. Citizens of the colony couldn't drink alcohol or own slaves. Some people couldn't be citizens. They were lawyers, Catholics, and blacks. 21 trustees were in charge. but, they couldn't own land, hold office, or get paid.

    The Founding of Savannah
    Savannah was the first city founded in Gerogia, and it was founded by James Oglethorpe. He and other colonists arrived on the ship Anne. The Induan cheif Tomochichi allowed him and his men to land at Yamacraw Bluff. Oglethorpe met a woman by the name of Mary Muscgrove, who spoke both English and the Yamacraw language. She translated for Oglethorpe and Tomochichi. This led to them becoming friends, and the colonists having a good relationship with the Indians.

    The city of Ebenezer was founded by a group of people called Salzburgers. They were exiled from their home country of Salzburg for their religious beliefs.

    The Highland Scots founded the city of Darien. They were recruted by James Oglethorpe to help protect the colony from the Spanish. The Scots were very good soldiers, which is the reason they were recruited

    The Battle of the Bloody Marsh
    The Battle of the Bloody Marsh was lead by General James Oglethorpe. He fought for the English. The English fought against the Spanish in this battle. The English won this battle. Rangers, British regulars, southeastern Indians, and even citizens assisted the British forces. This battle was important because it raised the spirits of the British, and reestablished the leadership of Oglethorpe.

    Georgia Becomes a Royal Colony
    There was a group of colonists called the Malcontents. They were upset with the trustees because they didn't like the policies they put in. The ones they didn't agree with were you couldn't own slaves, drink rum, or inherit land. When Georgia became a royal colony, the king of England was put in charge of it. The first three governors of Georgia as a royal colony were, in order, John Reynolds, Henry Ellis, and James Wright.

    In the French and Indian War, the British fought against the French. England ended up winning the war. They won all of the land that France had colonized. The war costed a lot of money, so England taxed the colonists. Eventually, this led to the American Revolution.

    This gave all the western land to the Indians. This was issued because they didn't want to anger the Indians and start another war. The colonists were angry about this because they were planning on using that land for farming.

    The Stamp Act taxed all paper produts for the colonists. The British taxed this because the French and Indian War was very expensive, and they needed to pay for it. The colonists were very angry about this because they felt ut was unfair. They hadn't needed to pay this tax before, and now they did.

    The Intolerable Acts
    The British passed the Intolerable Acts because the colonists dumped barrels of tea into the Boston Harbor. There were four of these acts, and they were all affected the colonies negativley. The worst being the Quatering Act. This act said that citizens were required to give food and shelter to any soldier that asked for it. Another closed the Boston port, and another said that anyone convicted of a crime had to have their trial in England.

    Thomas Jefferson was the main author of the Declaration. It delared the colonies independence from England. Button Gwinnett, Lyman Hall, and George Walton were three Georgians that signed it.

    The Battle of Kettle Creek
    The Patriots won this battle. Elijah Clarke led them to victory. Austin Dabney was the only black soldier in this battle. He recieved a large plot of land for his service.

    The British had control of Savannah, and this was important because it had a lot of major ports. France helped the Patriots in trying to take control of Savannah, but the battle was lost, and England remained in control of the city.
