Written by Willian Gibson in 1984, 'Neuromancer' is the first ever Cyberpunk novel which legitimized cyberpunk as a mainstream branch of science fiction literature. The novel tells the story of a washed-up computer hacker hired by a mysterious employer to pull off the ultimate hack.The novel popularised the term 'cyberspace' as a de facto term for the world wide web. -
A Cyborg manifesto
Donna Haraway's cyborg manifesto is one of the most important text of cyber-cultural studies as well as feminist studies of the past twenty years. Haraway deploys the metaphor of a cyborg to challenge feminists to engage in a politics beyond naturalism and essentialism. The metaphor offers a political strategy for the seemingly disparate interests of socialism and feminism, writing, "We are all chimeras, theorized and fabricated hybrids of machine and organism; in short, we are all cybrogs." -
