    The name "taco" for this delicious mexican meal derives from the little explosion made in mexican silver mines to excavate the ore in the mines.

    In the 19th Century, the word taco was put into the dictionary. One of the first types of tacos described in the dictionary was called "tacos de minero" meaning "miners tacos" which further solidifies the theory that tacos derived from mexican silver mines.

    Tacos made their first appearance in the United States in a newspaper in 1905. The publicity that the tacos got was thanks to the Chili Queens of San Antonio. The Chili Queens were a group of women who made traditional mexican dishes at the American festivals. Since Mexico was considered dangerous territory the Americans, the Americans went to the Chili Queens to still taste mexican food and mexican culture.

There are hundreds of thousands of Mexican restaurants in American and thousands of fast food Mexican restaurants. Restaurants such as Moe's Southwest Grill, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Del Taco, and Qdoba are amongst America's largest fast food taco chains. The largest fast food taco chain in America is Taco Bell. Taco Bell was founded in 1962.
