    James Gatz-that was really, or at least legally his name. He had changed it at the age of seventeen and at the specific moment that witnessed the begining of his career-when he saw Dan Cody's yacht drop anchor over the most insidious flat on Lake Superior.
  • Dan Cody dies

    On an expidition with Gatsby he passed away at age 55.
  • Jay meets Daisy B.

  • Gatsby went to Oxford

    "It was in ninteen-ninteen. I only stayed five months. Thats why I cant really call myself an Oxford man." - Jay Gatsby
  • Daisy and Gatsby meet again

    "We havent met for many years," said DAisy as matter-of-fact as it could ever be. "Five years next November" said Gatsby.
  • The Buchanans and Mr. Sloane come over to Gatsbys

    "Sit right down. Have a ciggarette or cigar." he walked around theroom quickly ringing bells. "I'll have something to drink of you in just a minute."
  • The Buchanans come to one of Gatsbys parties

    Daisy and Gatsby danced. I remember being surprised by his graceful, conservative fox-trot-I had never seen him dance before. Then they sauntered over to my house and sat on the steps for half and hour, while at her request I remained watchfully in the garden. "In case there'sa fire or a flood," she explained, "or any act of God." Tom appeared from his oblivious as we were sitting down to supper together. "Do you mind if I eat with some people over here?" he said. They werent together all night.
  • Daisy and Gatsby get in a car wreck and kill Mrs. Wilson

    "...You see when we left West Egg Daisy was very nervous and she thought it wouold steady her to drive-and this woman rushed out at us just as we were passing a car coming the other way. It all happened in a minute, but it seemed to me that she wanteed to speak to us, thought we were somebody she knew. Well, first Daisy turned away from the woman toward the other car, and then she lost her nerve and turned back. ...she must have died instantly."
