    The very first Laptop was the Osbourne 1 whis was created in 19981. The Osbourne 1 weighed about 24 pounds, and featured a five inch screen, modem port, two 5 1/4 floppy drives, and a battery pack. Its overall cost was about $1795 dollars.

    In 1983, a newer version of the Osbourne 1 came out named the Gavilan mobile computer.The Gavilan featured a clamshell design where the screen folded over the keyboard when closed and it weighed in at a light 9 pounds. It could run on a nickle cadmium battery for 9 hours.

    Over time laptops were being be made more and more and in 1988 Compaq made a SLT/286 laptop. This laptop weighed a heavier 14 pounds than the last one ,it also had a 1.44 floppy drive, a 286 processer and a new low-power chip that is among the faster 80286 microprocessors.
