  • Hewlett-Packard

    Hewlett-Packard
    Hewlett-Packard is founded by David Hewlett and Bill Packard. Their first product was the HP 200A Audio Oscillator.

    The Z3 computer is finished by Konrad Zuse. The Z3 used floating point binary arithmetic and had a 22-bit word length. Along with that the first Bombe was completed and it decrypted Nazi military communications during WWII,
  • ENIAC

    ENIAC
    The first electronic computer was called ENIAC and was the first programable general-purpose computer. It was made for the United States Army's Ballistic Research Laboratory. Its first prpgrams included a study about the expediency of the Hydrogen Bomb. ENIAC stood for Electronic Numerial Integrator And Computer which contained 17,468 vacuum tubes, 7,200 crystal diodes, 1,500 relays, 70,000 resistors, 10,000 capacitors, and around 5 million hand-soldered joints.

    Konrad Zuse began to build Plankalkul, the first algorithmic programming language. On September 9, Grace Hopper recorded that a moth was stuck between the relays of a computer (this is how we got the term "computer bug")

  • Eckert-Mauchly

    Presper Eckert and John Mauchly founded the Eckert-Mauchly Computer Corporation. The goal was to construct machines based on the knowledge they had with ENIAC and EDVAC.
  • A-0 Compiler

    Grace Hooper completed the A-0 compiler. It was the first compiler to use English-like words. A compiler is a computer program or set of pograms that translates sourc ecode written in programming language into another computer dialect.
  • UNIMATE

    UNIMATE (the first industrial robot) began working at General Motors.
  • Apollo 7

    The Apollo Guidance Computer made its inception while orbiting the Earth during the Apollo 7 mission.
  • First American ATM

    People in Valdosta, Georgia installed America's automatic teller machine (ATM).
  • Kenbak-1

    The Kenbak-1 was the first personal computer (PC) and it as sold for 750$ in Scientific American. Also, the first email was sent by Ray Tomlinson and he is credited for deciding on using the "@" symbol.
  • Intel 8008

    Intel's new and improved 8008 microprocessor is released over its predecessor, the 4004. Along with that, the famous video game Pong is released.
  • IMSAI

    IMSAI is founded and they created a small computing system using the then-new Intel 8080 microprocessor. Along with the IMSAI 8080, the Micral was invented and it used the Intel 8080 microprocessor.
  • Intel's and Zilog's Collaboration

    Intel and Zilog created a new microprocessor which was five times faster than its predecessor, it was called the Zilog Z-80. Along with that, soon to be Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak created the Apple-1.
  • Apple II

    Apple II
    The Apple II was released by Apple and became an instant success. Atari launched its Video COmputer System game console. Also, Randy Radio Shack's first desktop computer was released.
  • MS-DOS

    MS-DOS was the basic software used for the newly released IBM PC. MS-DOS was programmed by Microsoft.
  • Macintosh

    Apple released the Macintosh computer. IBM also released PC Jr. and the PC-AT. The PC Jr. was not at all successful.
  • The Internet

    Our modern internet gained support from the National Science Foundation which formed the NSFNET, linking several supercomputer centers. Soon, more regional networks developed and the government decided to reassign pieces of the ARPANET to the NSFNET.

    The World Wide Web (WWW) was invented.

    The operating system Linux was created by a Finnish student named Linus Torvalds.
  • Mosaic Web Browser

    The Mosaic web browser is released and was the first commercial software that allowed graphical access to content on the internet. Intel released their Pentium microprocessor.
  • Yahoo and Netscape

    Yahoo and Netscape Communications Corporation is founded.
