    The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand by, Gavrilo Princip, in 1914 was the immedate cause to the start of World War One. Princip, a member of the Black Hand, a radical nationalist group plotted the assassination to show his dissatisfaction with Austria-Hungary's control over Bosnia.
