The T'ang Dynasty is when Islam started to expand in China.The T'ang Dynasty started around 618 AD. Arab traders and buisness men from Arab Empire started to introduce Islam in China. The T'amg Dynasty ended in 907 due to a new emperor taking over ("Islam in China Tang and Song Dynasties", n.d).

Islam's third Khalifa Ottoman sent Sa'd ibn Waqqas to introduce unity between Islam and Arab to the Chinese Emperor Gaozong (Naṣr, 2003).

During the Umayyad period Muslims reached the coast of China and slowly communities were developed along the coast of China (Naṣr, 2003).

During the Tang Dynasty the first Mosque also know as "The Great Mosque of Xi'an" was built after joining Islamic culture with traditional Chinese culture ("Great Mosque of Xi'an", n.d).

During 1100-1700, the Mongol invasion increased contact between Muslims and Chinese people. This brought Islamic mathematics and astronomy to China (Naṣr, 2003).

During 1100-1700, the first Chinese Muslim named Tai-yu created the first Chinese work on Islam using Confucian language (Naṣr, 2003).

During the eleventh/seventh century there was strong opposition to Muslims and it became state policy. Chinese armies were trying to overrun Muslim lands in central Asia (Naṣr, 2003).

In 1294/1877, China complete the invasion in Eastern Turkestan. After completing the invasion they renamed it "Sinkiang". After developing "Sinkiang" more Muslims communities formed and cause civilization to thrive (Naṣr, 2003).

During the thirteenth/nineteenth century, there was several different Muslim uprisings that took place throughout China. Many Muslims did not survive and this lead to destruction of Islamic communities in Kansu, Tsinghai and Yunnan (Naṣr, 2003)

In 2012 there was an estimated 20 million Muslims living in China which makes up about 1.64% of China's population. There is over 35,000 mosques ("Islam in Modern China", n.d).
