    Girls Caught Dancing in the Woods
    Rev. Parris saw the girls dancing in the woods, and saw one of the girls naked. After dancing in the woods and conjuring the dead, Betty began to act sick and blame the sickness on "witches" thus starting the witch trials in Salem. Parris: "and what shall I say to them? That my daughter and niece I discovered dancing like heathen in the forest?"
  • Tituba Accused of Witchcraft

    Tituba Accused of Witchcraft
    Abigail said that Betty was sick because Tituba had bewitched her. This caused Tituba to be whipped, she eventually said she hadn't compacted with the devil but the devil had tried to get her to. She named off everyone that she saw with the devil. After Tituba was accused, the town started to hold trials against the falsely accused. Over 200 were accused. "and I look-and there was Goody Good"
  • John Hale Arrives in Salem

    John Hale Arrives in Salem
    John Hale, reverend of Beverly, was called by Rev. Parris to inspect Betty. While he is there, Tituba is accused of witchcraft, he brings her to God and says "Tituba-open yourself and let God‘s holy light shine on you." He believes God has given Tituba to them to reveal the "witches" of Salem. John Hale arriving in Salem meant that Rev. Parris skipped procedures because he didn't know what to do and panicked.

    False Accusations of Witchcraft
    Betty, Abigail and the other girls accused multiple people of witchcraft. Their false accusations made the court in Salem start trials against the accused. The false accusations didn't need proof because witchcraft was an "invisible crime" which means only the victim and the accused would know about it, and the court would normally believe the victim. "I saw George Jacobs with the devil!"
  • Elizabeth Proctor Given a Poppet

    Elizabeth Proctor Given a Poppet
    Mary Warren gave Elizabeth a poppet which would later be used in the accusation of her with witchcraft. Mary Warren made it in the court. Mary Warren stuck a needle in it so that Elizabeth could be accused of voodoo.
    " I made a gift for you today, Goody Proctor. I had to sit long hours in a chair, and passed the time with sewing."
  • Elizabeth Accused of Witchcraft

    Elizabeth Accused of Witchcraft
    Mary Warren says that Elizabeth was mentioned in the court by Abigail. Since there was a needle in the poppet given to Elizabeth, Abigail stabbed herself and said that Goody Proctor's spirit did it. John Hale inspected Proctor's house and found the poppet. Elizabeth is also arrested " You were somewhat mentioned. But I said I never see no sign you ever sent your spirit out to hurt no one, and seeing I do live so closely with you, they dismissed it."
  • John Proctor Arrives at the Court

    John Proctor Arrives at the Court
    John Proctor arrived with Mary Warren at the court to try and prove his wife was innocent. Mary Warren said that they were only acting that they had been bewitched. Abigail and the other girls act like they had been bewitched by Mary, Mary eventually joins in with them and blames it on John who gets arrested for witchcraft "God is dead!"
  • Giles Corey Arrested for Contempt of the court

    Giles Corey Arrested for Contempt of the court
    Giles Corey was arrested because he had information that he wouldn't tell who he got it from. When he wouldn't say the name in a court hearing, the judge made the court in session. Giles Corey knew his rights and wouldn't speak. He was executed. " I am never put-upon; I know my rights, sir, and I will have them."
  • Proctor is Arrested for Witchcraft

    Proctor is Arrested for Witchcraft
    Abigail and the other girls are "witched" by Mary. Mary pushed the blame on John, John is arrested for witchcraft and spends time in prison. Rev. Hale tries to get John to confess but he never does because he rather die than have an unclean name. "(Pointing at Proctor.) You are the Devil‘s man!"
  • John Proctor is Hung

    John Proctor is Hung
    At the end of all of this, John Proctor an innocent man is hung for witchcraft. At first he confesses, but later recants it because he wants a clean name. I could imagine the town going into an uproar because just about everyone knew John Proctor and knew he was innocent. "Because it is my name! Because I cannot have another in my life. Because I am not worth the dust on the feet of them that hang! How may I live without my name? I have given you my soul, leave me my name!"
